A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was executed to investigate the effects of Reducal® in terms of weight management (n=20). After 3 weeks of supplementation, energy intake in an ad libitum meal was significantly reduced by ± 20% (p < 0.05).
Reducal® promotes GLP-1 secretion
GLP-1 promotes anorexigenic signalling
GLP-1 acts on the brain, mainly the hypothalamus, which is involved in the regulation of appetite. GLP-1 promotes anorexigenic signalling, reducing the desire to eat.
GLP-1 reduces the hunger hormone
GLP-1 interacts with other hormones as well. It increases the levels of leptin and reduces the levels of ghrelin, two hormones involved in the regulation of satiety and hunger.
GLP-1 slows down gastric emptying
GLP-1 slows down gastric emptying, thereby it promotes the feeling of fullness after a meal.
Mode of action
Reducal® exerts its beneficial effects on three levels:
- Prebiotic: It has a strong bifidogenic effect, which leads to an improved short-chain fatty acid production.
- Increased GLP-1 levels: The increased levels of the SCFA propionate and acetate stimulate GLP-1 levels, through GPR43 signalling. Thereby, appetite and energy intake are reduced via anorexigenic brain signalling.
- Viscosity: Due to the high viscosity of the fiber blend, gastric emptying is slowed down. This leads to increased feelings of satiety.
